A plasma display panel or screen is a type of interactive display panel which is commonly used in HDTV of large display (32 inch or higher) and uses plasma display technology. Before we go ahead with the technology, let us first understand what ‘plasma’ is. Plasma is one of the most common states of a matter. The other states of a matter are: solids, liquids and gases. It is commonly found in the universe in the form of stars, ion beams, gas clouds; ionized dust etc. All stars are made up of plasma and the spaces between them are also occupied by plasmas. It can also be seen in the earth atmosphere in the form of lightning. Plasma is

an ionized gas which means it contains free electrons (the electrons which are not bound to an atom or a molecule). It has a size (measured in meters), lifetime (measured in seconds), density (in per cubic meter), temperature (in Kelvin or electron volts) and magnetic field (in teslas). Because of the presence of free electric charges, it has usually very high electrical conductivity.

A plasma TV contains two panels of glass which positioned hundred and thousands of small cells. Each cell consists of electrodes and neon and xenon gases which are electrically turned into plasma to emit photons i.e. light. Plasma screens size starts from 32 inch and go up to 70 inch. There sizes are measured diagonally across the

screen. Buy plasma screen according to the size of the room, where it will be accommodated. It is not a good idea to have a 70 inch plasma screen in a small room. Not only it will put strain on your eyes, it will not get enough space to allow its heat to escape. For pleasing viewing experience, a 70 inch plasma screen must be viewed from 15-20 feet.

Some advantages of a plasma TV:

1) Provides very high image resolution. Higher the resolution better is the quality of the image.

2) It can improve low quality video signals and doesn’t produce scan lines

3) It accurately reproduces colors and thus can produce extremely realistic images. This again means

very high quality pictures.

4) It can scale images properly as it has absolutely flat surface, wide viewing angle and screen aspect ratio. This provides a pleasing viewing experience

5) It can be used as a replacement for interactive whiteboards in schools, colleges and corporate board rooms.
